Foster with Pounce

Take the first step toward providing life-saving support for a homeless pet!

What is fostering?

As a foster parent, you provide temporary care and space for a homeless pet. As a foster-based rescue, our cats live in a foster home (rather than in a shelter) until they are adopted.

How long are foster placements?

  • Normal foster timeframes are 8-16 weeks, depending on the age and medical status of the pet.

  • Short-term foster parents are sometimes needed for emergency situations.

What does Pounce de Leon provide?

  • Foster parent training session

  • “Starter kit” including food, litter, litter box, scooper, toys, and basic care instructions

  • Medications and vaccinations

  • Spay/Neuter surgery

  • Adoption outlets to help pet find his/her new furever home

  • A thorough process to interview foster parents and find the best fit for you and the pet

  • Prompt and professional communication with foster parents

What does the Foster Parent provide?

  • LOVE and socialization – Many cats come to us scared, sick, neglected, and in need of your affection!

  • Safe environment – heated/cooled space, free anything that can harm the pet

  • Transportation – to vet visits, and other places as needed for medical care, spay/neuter, etc

  • Ongoing food and litter (If you are unable to provide this, please contact the Foster Coordinator)

  • Additional ways you can support Pounce and your foster pet (These are appreciated but not required.):

    • Donation to cover the cost of vet care, medications or spay/neuter services

    • Prompt and professional communication with Pounce staff
